WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
REACH is for highly motivated students currently in their junior year of high school and ready for a challenge. Students must be living in Santa Barbara County, be able to demonstrate financial need, and be willing to embrace the opportunities presented to help them achieve their goals.
DO I NEED EXPERIENCE?
No! REACH is all about getting life experience and learning new skills. All you need to bring is an enthusiasm for learning. Occasionally you'll also need to bring a few changes of clothes and a toothbrush for our longer trips.
HOW DO I APPLY
You can apply online or print and mail an application. Please see our, "Application" page for either option.
WHAT IS REACH?
REACH is a real-world, no-cost, experience-based education program for motivated high school students from Santa Barbara County. REACH (which stands for Resilience, Education, Adventure, Community and Health) works with students to build skills that prepare them to explore and reach their full potential in life.
WHAT WILL MY SON OR DAUGHTER LEARN AT REACH?
REACH is committed to providing enriching experiences that students may not be exposed to elsewhere. We offer skill building opportunities in the areas of outdoor adventure, post secondary & personal development, health and wellness, financial education, and community involvement.
WHAT KIND OF TRIPS DOES REACH PROVIDE?
We provide year-round programming, on weekends, evenings and multi-day trips over the winter & summer school vacations. Examples include cooking classes, financial workshops, SAT/ACT prep courses, college tours and outdoor adventures.
HOW MUCH WILL THIS PROGRAM COST?
This program is of no cost to students. REACH Provides: transportation to some events, food, accommodation, gear, and activity fees. For many of our events we meet students at our Santa Barbara location & then provide transportation from there. However there maybe events where transportation is not provided. We will help as much as possible by providing carpool list, train tickets, etc.
WHERE ARE WE LOCATED?
While our program runs trips throughout California & Ecuador, our offices are based at the Impact Hub in Santa Barbara. 1117 State St. Santa Barbara, CA 93101.
WHAT IS EXPECTED IN RETURN?
This program requires a three year commitment. Students join us during their junior year and stay with us through the first year of post-secondary education. We ask that students come fully prepared, and fully committed to maximizing their own learning, and the experiences of their teammates when participating in any activity.
HOW SAFE IS THIS PROGRAM?
Safety has been and will continue to be one of our highest priorities. Although the activities do have some risk associated with them, REACH has a range of management strategies to minimize risk, while maximizing the opportunities for our students’ learning and development.
HOW WILL MY CHILD BE SUPERVISED ON THIS PROGRAM?
REACH staff and instructors supervise students, either directly or indirectly, for the entire time they are with us. Boys and girls are provided with separate sleeping quarters at all times. All of our staff goes through reference checks and a background screening.
